Last fall my younger brother, who had been battling cancer, was rushed to hospital by ambulance. Her caregiver phoned the family and told us she had only a few days to live. My 83-year-old Aunt was helping her with her illness when she was sick and could not go to see her. Another brother also had health problems and was unable to travel. I am 63 years old and I was demolished a few years ago. Finding a high-paying job when you are over 60 is difficult. I drive Uber for a living so my budget is very limited. He is my brother so I took an emergency trip to Ohio to see him for the last time and to represent the family. He delayed and died on November 10, 2020.

My sister called in January. He wanted to have an Aunt's 84th birthday party on May 1. Although I had not yet paid for a trip to see my brother, I agreed to fly back to Ohio for his party. At 83 years old, we do not know how long he will stay with us. Life is uncertain during the epidemic and you are in a high-risk group. The gathering would give us an opportunity to celebrate his life and bring sorrow to our brother.

I am buying a ticket from Frontier Airlines on January 11, 2020.

I was hoping to stay only 1 day at the party but I had to book 3 days to get a less expensive ticket. I would not have been able to drive Uber in those days. I will have a huge impact on my finances that week. Losing my salary along with travel expenses can be over $ 1000, but family is important. It would be nice to see them again.

Reports began to come from China about the Corona virus. They had shut down 500 million people, more than the population of the United States. On January 31, President Trump blocked a trip from China. The news became very serious, and I began to worry about flying around in a plane with a contagious disease that was destroying the country.

On the 27th of February, Frontier added that they were canceling my initial reservation because they did not have enough passengers to board the plane. They wanted to reschedule my flights. I called them and told them that I did not want to make any changes. I wanted to wait and see if I could plan a short trip so I would not lose 3 business days. Frontier said they would issue a 90-day voucher so I could reschedule it later.

The first American citizen was killed by Corona Virus on February 29. The disease was spreading rapidly. I thought it would be wise to wait for a reorganization. On March 17, the Governor of California announced his stay at home. Some states across the country immediately announced their stay at home. The Frontier finally stopped flying altogether in April. I could not reschedule my flight even though I wanted to.

On April 3, the Department of Transportation ruled that airlines must reimburse customers if their flights are canceled. Many airlines were not compliant so the DOT issued another warning on May 12, 2020. This was unprecedented.

I have not worked since March 17. The government said gig workers like me would be able to earn $ 600 / week but that did not happen. I have no income other than a $ 1200 3 month renewal check. I contacted Frontier and asked him to return my $ 336. They never provided any services and could not because they were not traveling when my flight was canceled.

Frontier refused. They will not just give me back my money, I only have June 2 left to arrange a flight with them or I will lose my money. They will get to save $ 336 for doing nothing at all.

Is Frontier benefiting from this epidemic? I would really have taken the trip if it had not been for a highly contagious epidemic. They were closed in April, it was not possible for me to use their services if I wanted to. I feel like I should be entitled to a refund. Representative, Lulu Zaldivar tells me they will not return my money. They said that although they had canceled my first flight and were trying to reschedule, I had canceled the flight and did not qualify for a refund under the Department of Transport order.
