At London's airports, Stansted Airport is far from central London, about 25 miles [40 km] away. The airport is dominated by cheap budget flights and especially Ryanair and easyJet, Europe's largest and most expensive airlines.
Most flights are European or UK domestic flights.
The airport also has significant traffic, especially for British people traveling on a sunny trip.
Major intercontinental and state-owned network operators such as British Airways, Virgin, American and Singapore Airlines all operate London's Heathrow or Gatwick Airports.
The airport is an established but re-launched airport 15 years ago with a brand new airport and infrastructure, including a direct train link and a road to London. Originally it was a white elephant but the emergence of less expensive budget carriers has transformed Stansted into one of the fastest growing aircraft in Europe over the past decade.
Today, the full volume of the main term is visible and a new conclusion and exit of the second runway is planned.
There are no surprises for the terminal itself, all the standard facilities are in place including the selection of foreign currency, pharmacies, news stands etc. There is a good list of dining opportunities ranging from fast food and pub food to sitting down restaurants. Like all BAA-owned airports, owner, there are many luxury shopping malls. But remember, most flights from Stansted are within the EEC and are not eligible for free status.
It usually takes about 30 minutes from the ground touch to the cultural exit on most flights if you have a load. There is an immediate non-cultural airport information desk and the AirportCarz desk are responsible for taxi services at the airport. Taking a taxi to London is used only by a small number of passengers due to distance and cost.
If your destination is London, the quickest option is to take the Stansted Express train. The train station is below the terminal so you just descend on the platforms by escalating stairs or elevators.
Stansted Express takes 45 minutes to get to London Street Liverpool Station and travels approximately 15 minutes during the day. The last train is in the middle of the night. Stansted Express payments are expensive, over $ US40 per refund. The Liverpool Street terminus is also less suitable for most travelers, as it is located in the heart of London's financial district, 3-5 miles from most of the most popular hotel resorts. The train stops at a central station called Tottenham Hale, 10 minutes ahead of Liverpool Street, in exchange for the London Underground (Victoria Line).
Many airlines will be selling Stansted Express tickets, some at a discount, before arriving at Stansted Airport.
The option to transfer the budget to London is to take on one of the four scheduled coaching services run by National Express and Terravision. There is a large, modern trainers station in front of the terminal, near the railway station.
The cheapest option is Terravision service to Liverpool Street Station, the same route as Stansted Express. The price is almost part of the Stansted Express train. Less like all road-based transfers by London traffic, on a good day the coach will do about an hour. National Express operates resources approximately every 30 minutes to nearby Stratford Underground for the same price.
Another route taken by the coaches is Stansted in London Victoria. They both have a refund of about $ 25. The Terravision service is non-stop, the National Express service stops in central London, many of which are close to major hotel regions. The National Express service is a real 24x7 service, the Terravision service stops just a few hours in the morning. Some of the highest waves are at midnight in Stansted-London and very early in the morning London-Stansted on the first and last flight when Stansted Express and London Underground closed.
Because of the unusually cheap costs of Ryanair and easyJet, many travelers across the continent have found it much cheaper to fly to Heathrow and complete their journey to their European destination using a less expensive airline from Stansted.
National Express operates transportation services between Heathrow and Stansted from the Stansted train station. There are usually a few services per hour, the journey takes about 90 minutes (although road delays are almost common during rushing times). The fare is not cheap either. The return fee is approximately $ US50. It's cheaper to use the National Express direct service to Stratford and catch the London Underground to Heathrow, but you're a little more comfortable.
If you want to stay at Stansted airport before the flight there are many options available. Like all London airport hotels, room prices are usually much cheaper on weekends than during the week. If you come from Heathrow or Gatwick with a lot of competition, you will probably find Stansted's most expensive prices, especially in the budget sector.
Near the terminal is the main Stansted Radisson SAS, which is the only airport hotel where you do not need a hotel transfer car. This hotel is probably the most luxurious and the weekend prices can compete fairly well. The first luxury hotel in Stansted is a 4-star Hilton hotel on the border of the airport. The Hilton Stansted drives its own bus from the train station almost every 30 minutes.
Near the airport are Express by Holiday Inn and Best Western. A consistently cheap option is the Inn Inn in the car service area at the entrance to Stansted Airport. It does not provide the airport transfer center itself although there are taxis and local bus service.
Outside the chains there are many private hotels in the vicinity.
